Speed up your Start Menu
Jul 14th, 2007 by Vladimir Flemming
Ever had a problem with how slow the Start Menu loads? Well we found a fix for you! You just need to edit a Registry Key.
Step 1:
Open the Registry (Start->Run->Regedit.exe)
Step 2:
Just go to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop \ MenuShowDelay
Step 3:
By the default the value is equal to 400. If you change this to a smaller value the Start Menu will speed up proportionally. Put it to 0 so that it will load as fast as possible.
If this doesn’t work for any reason you can still try something else: Navigate to Display Properties then go to Appearance and then click Effects. Now turn off the option titled: Show menu shadow. You will get much better overall performace for your Start Menu.
WOhoooo… I was always wondering how could I hide that ugly(in my opinion) shadow from the Start Menu. Thanks for showing me how. I also found other nice options in the Display Properties that I didn’t knew anything about. cool
Useful indeed, the shadow takes lots of time to load but I do like to use it. Probably when my computer will slow-down
I will try it. Right now I don’t see any insuportable slowliness because of this Windows feature.
