Recently Yahoo Widgets Test
Aug 12th, 2007 by admin
We recently tested Yahoo! Widgets Desktop Application on an Athlon Xp 1600Mhz and 256MB Ram, the results are:
1. It moves slower then acceptable. Yahoo! recomands a computer with at least 512 MB Ram and they are right.
2. Installing Day Planner Widget with back-end on Yahoo!Calendar is also very slow for you to make it a good utility. I reviewed this Widget because many of our readers are using it or want something similar.
3. To much “reflections” in the design and to many shadows. Did these people who design the interface ever went to an Art School ? Or do they use their own software many times ?
4. Very little number of features. No way to change Widget from that “trendy”-looking Application to a regular Windows one for instance. (Very nice if you dislike their choice of colors, you are running an older computer or if you just want to save memory).
5. Widgets should open New Internet Explorer windows whenever they need to show you a web-pace instad of changing the URL of your current Internet Explorer window.
6. As a desktop aplication it should not check everytime the Yahoo server because this slows the application down if you have problems with your Internet Connection. And because Widgets open at start-up and always presend as a running application they show down your computer.
7. It laks a good clasification of the widgets list and a recomandation of the best widgets. Because there are a lot of similar widgets it is very hard for you to find the best one in other way then trying them all or read the entire description.
Yahoo! Widgets is a nice attempt of Yahoo! penetrating this Widgets/Gadgets industry but the application isn’t as mature as an active user would want it. So, Good Luck Yahoo! in improving!
very interesting, but I don’t agree with you
